Hello Global Grade 3!
Welcome to a new year of adventure and learning as you share your ideas, creations and adventures with the world. Blogging is not just something you share within your school and family. Blogging gives you the chance to contact the world and collaborate on some amazing activities.
I hope to have many opportunities to drop in on your blog and perhaps leave some comments as your school year progresses through the school year. 🙂
Teacher, N.S.W., Australia
Mrs. Renton has told us a TON about you ALREADY! She told us about how you would visit the Global Grade 3 blog last year … and how you really helped the students explore their questions further! We are really excited to have you along on OUR learning journey THIS year!
Sorry for not responding to you earlier … it took us a while to get all our blog permission forms signed and organized. We’ve been talking about the blog, looking at a couple of other blogs, and discussing what it means to leave a GREAT reply to an AWESOME comment like YOURS.
We ALSO had to decide if we still wanted to be called The Grade Three Bloggers this year or not. Today, we brainstormed with a partner. Altogether, we came up with six different possibilities:
1. The Room 1 Bloggers
2. The Battalion Park Bloggers
3. The Global Grade 3s
4. The Grade Three Bloggers
5. The Hawk Bloggers
6. The Battalion Hawk Bloggers
They were ALL such GREAT suggestions … but … then came the HARD part! We had to decide which one we all liked the best. This was tough because we felt pretty good about ALL of them. We voted to try to find the one that we all liked the most and then we finally narrowed it down to two. The LAST two choices were: The Room 1 Bloggers and The Battalion Hawk Bloggers.
Which one is YOUR favourite? We decided, through a DEMOCRATIC vote, that we would call ourselves The Battalion Hawk Bloggers! We thought we should come up with a NEW name because we want to have our own UNIQUE journey this year. We love what The Grade Three Bloggers did last year … but … we are brand NEW to this. We are SO excited!
Since we started blogging this year, we did some tough mental math to add up the number of hits since our first post … it was TOUGH … but we discovered that already we’ve had 328 hits … and that is just since last Friday. Today, on the flag counter we discovered a new FLAG!
It’s from Guernsey! NONE of us had EVER heard of THAT country before … so we clicked on the flag to discover a little more. Just over 65 000 people live in that country. That’s less than CALGARY alone! It is close to Poland, France, the UK, and Ireland! We’ve decided that we will have to take a little Google Earth field trip later today! ALREADY our learning journey begins!
Thanks for your comment, Ross! We will answer your latest one soon!
The Battalion Hawk Bloggers 🙂
Mrs. Renton, this was a wonderful video! What a way to kick off a new year. To the Grade 3 Bloggers: welcome to a new school year! I look forward to meeting you and following your blog. I live in Brazil, so I will be one of your many international readers! This is going to be AMAZING!
Mrs. Renton told us that you are Ms. Emann’s SISTER! Ms. Emann taught us about computers and technology when we were in Grade ONE! We are THRILLED that you will be one of our global readers. You live in Brazil … it must be a LOT different than living in Calgary. We can’t wait to learn MORE about Brazil from you! We will go on a Google Earth field trip in the next few days to check Brazil out! Do you have a special place in Brazil that you think we should check out when we do that? We wonder how cold it gets and how hot! Is it Summer or Winter there right now? Thank you for checking out our blog … we look forward to learning from you this year!
The Battalion Hawk Bloggers (we changed our name because this is a new journey with new Grade 3s!) 😉
PS Have fun in CALGARY … we wish your brother happiness and luck … hope the wedding ROCKS!!! 🙂
Dear Global Grade Threes!
“Together We are Strong” – what a fantastic video. Larissa was a Global Grade Threeer? last year and was eager to touch base with you all. Larissa says “You should be excited because it will change your LIFE!”. Larissa was so happy to be a part of the FIRST BLOG of the whole entire CBE. She says “You are very lucky to have this blog and Mrs Renton as a teacher. You are going to learn SO much!” Larissa is now in grade 4 and wanted you to know something she has learned just recently at school. Did you know that FAIL means? Well you probably know one way but you don’t know the second meaning. The second meaning is:
We hope you all have a FABULOUS year! – enjoy the journey!!
Hi Larissa and Lynn!
Thank you for your compliment on the Animoto video – Mrs. Renton really appreciated it. She said the program was really EASY to use, once she played around with it for a bit. She played it for us on the very FIRST day of school – we thought it was awesome because she made it for us! It told us about who she was and what she likes.
You are right – making mistakes is the way of learning. We ALL make mistakes. Mrs. Renton said she made TONS of mistakes while she was learning to make her video. If you make mistakes and you find out you’ve gotten the wrong answer … then you discover you need to try again! You need to KEEP trying. We think that the only failure is NOT trying!
We LOVE the way you said that FAIL means First Attempt In Learning, Larissa. That means … as long as you TRY … you’ll never fail! We are ALWAYS going to remember your special way of explaining FAIL, Larissa!
We hope that you keep checking back … we would LOVE for you to be a part of our global audience!
Hello Mrs Renton and the entire new grade 3 learners. Brenden was a grade three student last year and had the pleasure to blog and break down the classroom walls with Mrs. Renton. You are very lucky to have such an AWESOME teacher who will take you all on an extraordinary adventure of learning. Brenden loves the welcome video, it is truly inspiring. Have a wonderful year. Best wishes
Brenden and his family 🙂
We LOVED your comment and we think it’s COOL that some of the Grade Three Bloggers are still checking back! We got a message from Larissa and HER mom too! Thanks for leaving an awesome comment. We are really excited to be blogging. Some of us knew what a blog was before this … but not all of us! We wonder how YOU felt when YOU first started blogging … did you know what a blog was before you started breaking down the classroom walls? How do you like your new school? (Mrs. Renton says that the new school is SO lucky to be working with you!!! ;)) We loved Mrs. Renton’s welcome video too – she made it just for us. It told us lots about her … she showed it on the first day of school … and it helped us to feel like we knew her ALREADY! We hope that you keep on checking back … we hope you stay connected to our adventures!
What an inspiring start to the school year! Tommy is a member of Mrs. Renton’s grade three learners and he was very excited to guide me through their blog. It’s a wonderful way to demonstrate to children how we can connect to the world on a global scale. We’re excited to see the many learning opportunities these grade threes will have in the year ahead.
